Creating a luxurious, minimalist escape, the Horizon Flinders project by Mim Design is our Project Of The Year for 2021. Perched on a clifftop in Flinders on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the Horizon mansion pushed the boundaries of design and ushered in a new level of luxury living into Australia.

Featuring a range of Natural Stone from CDK Stone, the Horizon Flinders project truly is one of a kind. With the architecture crafted by BH Architects and the interiors composed by Mim Design, this home combines aspects of contemporary architecture and minimalist interiors whilst creating a truly tranquil space.

Starting within the main living area, this space embraces the oceanside views whilst reflecting the ocean’s natural beauty. The spacious kitchen features St Croix Marble on the benchtop and splashback.

Adjacent to this, the breath-taking bar showcases the profound beauty of Emerald Haze Quartzite. Both of these Natural Stones provide a raw aesthetic that clearly mirrors the surrounding landscape. 

Continuing through the abode, the Horizon Flinders costal retreat also features a second kitchen with a Blue Moon Granite benchtop and splashback. This additional kitchen offers a practical solution to entertaining and catering. Being extremely hardwearing, Blue Moon Granite is an exceptional choice for this demanding kitchen.

Characterised by its striking veining pattern, Blue Moon Granite combines grey and blue tones that perfectly represent the clifftop this abode rests on. Adding an alluring texture to this space, this additional kitchen also features matching Blue Moon Granite cabinetry handles. The attention to detail within this home is truly unmatched.

Tucked away, the Horizon home also features an Emerald Haze Quartzite bar nook that is truly one of a kind. Creating an unparalleled texture, this bar uses Emerald Haze on the benchtop, as well as, the wall cladding and shelf. Composing a consistent look across the cabinetry, the Emerald Haze undertones perfect match the subtle green cabinetry. 

Aside from the stunning beauty of this project, the stonework is truly nothing less than exceptional. Crafted by Stonelux, this project features very intricate fluting in the Natural Stone, as well as, unconventional edging on some of the benchtops. To comprehend the biggest challenges in creating this masterpiece, Adi from Stonelux explains the challenges of this project.

Adi explains, “The curved back panel in the kitchen was the biggest challenge. It was really important to set out the intricate grooves perfectly so that we don’t end up with uneven grooves at the joins or at the end of the panel.”

Adi from Stonelux continues, “To get a really impeccable finish, all the grooves needed to be evenly spaced out from start to finish and all the joins needed to be almost invisible. I really believe that we have achieved that.”

A fine selection of Natural Stone flows throughout this masterpiece. St Croix Marble is also featured on the entry way floor and throughout the entire bathroom.

Within a show-stopping fluted design, the intricate St Croix bathroom continues the motif of reflecting the surrounding coastline. The finishes and details within this space truly elevates this home into a new level of bespoke.

Drawing inspiration from the exotic beauty of the Saint Croix coral reefs in Caribbean Sea, St Croix Marble seamlessly combines luxury and tranquillity. St Croix is characterised by an alluring white base with striking grey veining and shadows. 

Effortlessly creating an indoor-outdoor living space, the Horizon Flinders project features New Savior limestone tiles in the outdoor entertaining area. Overlooking the remarkable coastline, the outdoor entertaining area features a contemporary design which leads down to the pool.

With rich light grey veining and shadowy undertones, New Savior adds an unmatched depth and contrast. Perfectly synergising with the peninsula landscape, New Savior Limestone is an ideal choice for creating breath-taking spaces.

With a stunning use of St Croix tiles and slabs, this master ensuite engulfs a sense of freshness and tranquility. Perfectly synergising with the white base tones and black finishings, St Croix Marble is ideal for creating a breath-taking greyscale or neutral palette.

At the heart of this entertainer’s dream home, is this daring wine cellar. Featuring a beautiful green marble from CDK Stone, this bold space perfectly reflects the bold and adventurous wine collection housed within it. This breath-taking natural stone features an electrifying veining that creates an alluring depth. 

Throughout this project Mim Design worked tirelessly with CDK Stone to make the Horizon Flinders vision a reality.
